Andrew Garfield Named New ‘Spider-Man 4’
We knew Tobey Maguire was out, but Spider-Man fans were surprised today to learn that movie bosses chose a relative unknown, Andrew Garfield, to take over the leading role in the fourth film.
If you have heard of Garfield, get used to him: His name will be all over the entertainment pages by the end of the year. The 26-year-old actor is starring with Justin Timberlake in The Social Network, and he’ll also appear opposite Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan in the upcoming flick Never Let Me Go. Clearly, his star is on the rise.
Spider-Man 4 director Mark Webb said (via People.com), “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
