A month after the singer-actress’s initial deal with American Idol fell apart — thanks, in part, to demands that had gotten “out of hand,” according to a source — Lopez will after all be joining the judging panel for the show’s upcoming 10th season, sources tell PEOPLE.
Lopez’s $12 million contract, which was first reported by Deadline.com, comes two weeks after DioGuardi confirmed she was leaving the show, following in the footsteps of both Simon Cowell and new judge Ellen DeGeneres.
According to the report, Lopez was hoping for movie and TV development deals to accompany and even larger Idol salary as well as input about her new co-judges, but Fox made no commitments and she settled for a cool $12.
“She’s very excited,” a source close to Lopez says of the final deal.
Fox has no comment and a rep for Lopez did not return calls for comment.
No official word on who may be Lopez’s fellow judges but Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler said he will “probably” be a judge. Shania Twain, Harry Connick Jr., Elton John and Chris Isaak had also been rumored as possibilities.

The most disappointing style of the night came from Katy Perry who traded in her sparkly striped tube dress by Giorgio Armani for a performance costume that looked like it came straight from the mall — zebra striped leggings, shredded T-shirt, and a pleathery black vest.
Sandra Bullock could have also stepped up her sartorial game, wearing a gray AllSaints T-shirt with horses on it and black leather leggings that looked a tad too casual, as well as a bit dated.

NEW YORK — Former “Fly Girl” Jennifer Lopez is poised to return to television – this time as a judge on “American Idol.”
The singer-dancer-actor was close to signing a deal to join Fox TV’s hit singing contest, a person familiar with the negotiations said late Thursday. The person, who was not authorized to comment publicly, spoke on condition of anonymity.
Fox declined comment. Phone and e-mail messages for Lopez’s representatives were not immediately returned.
The “American Idol” opening for Lopez comes with comedian-talk show host Ellen DeGeneres’ departure from the show.
Degeneres announced Thursday she was leaving after one year as judge.
“A couple months ago, I let Fox and the `American Idol’ producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” DeGeneres said in a statement. The comedian-talk show host said she realized that while she “loved discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.”
In May, Simon Cowell exited after nine seasons to start a new talent show for Fox.
Those under consideration for his spot, according to reports, are a varied group that includes Steven Tyler and Harry Connick Jr.
Lopez’ films include “Selena,” “The Wedding Planner” and most recently “The Back-Up Plan.” She has appeared as a mentor on “American Idol.”
Looks like Jennifer Lopez will be “putting on her Louboutins” for a new role next year — judge on American Idol. The superstar singer/actress has accepted one of the two vacant judges’ chairs on the Idol panel, OK! has learned exclusively.
“Jennifer accepted the Idol judge position,” an Idol insider confirms to OK!. “They are ironing out contracts as we speak so unless something goes wrong it’s a done deal.”
J. Lo’s Idol acceptance comes directly after Ellen DeGeneres announced her decision to depart the hit FOX talent show after only one season.
“She’s absorbing Ellen’s salary which is why Ellen resigned today,” our source adds, meaning J. Lo has agreed to appear on Idol for the same amount of money as Ellen.
But FOX is not divulging any news on the new judging panel just yet.
“We have no comment,” a rep for the network told OK!.
It sure looks like it will be another big weekend at the box office for the recently released flick, “Inception,” according to early estimates.
The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, took the number one spot on its opening weekend and is predicted to stay there this weekend, as well, with earnings nearing $40 million.
Not far behind, however, is the highly-anticipated movie “Salt” starring Angelina Jolie. Estimates are leaning toward a $35 million opening weekend for the CIA thriller.
Another one to keep your eye on is the family-friendly “Ramona and Beezus” film starring Selena Gomez, which is expected to fare quite well during its opening weekend.
